Food Truck is Coming to Sovereign Oaks June 18th
The Social Committee has arranged for a Food Truck to come to Sovereign Oaks for an outdoor, socially-distanced get-together on June 18th. It’s an Instant Picnic where you can gather, catch up with neighbors, and eat!!
Exact time and location TBD. Watch for more info to come.
Trails Need Love Too!
Sovereign Oaks’ trails are part of what makes living here special. But they need attention and care. The Trails Committee has an ambitious list of projects to keep the trails safe, attractive and pleasant. Want to get a little exercise with your neighbors while maintaining and improving the Sovereign Oaks experience? Contact Mark Jordan (Mark.Jordan@emerson.com) for more information.
Brush Cleanup
Wondering what to do with the dead branches and excess brush that accumulates on your property? Mike Newton is arranging for a tree service to periodically come into Sovereign Oaks and chip excess brush that has been collected (and piled for easy access with trunks facing the road). The chips will be retained for community spaces, trails, etc. saving the haul fee, and benefiting the neighborhood. Chipping will be done for a handful of lots near one another, and participating neighbors will share the cost. Contact Mike (choppermagnum@aol.com) for more information.

Volunteers Still Needed for Old Farm School Road Adopt-a-Road Cleanup
On April 28th, the NC Department of Transportation officially approved Sovereign Oaks, Holly Hill and River Run to adopt Old Farm School Road between Lower Grassy Branch and Riceville Road. Moe Davis is working with the points of contact in Holly Hill and River Run to set a date for the first cleanup effort. The signup form can be found on the Slack channel “#old-farm-school-road-adoption” or on our website (see: “Adopt a Highway Project” in the menu above). Additional updates will be provided in both locations as they become available.
(Note: River Run was not on the initial application that was submitted, so they do not appear on the certificate of appreciation. They are included on the form that went to the NCDOT sign department to acknowledge them along with us on the road sign that will go up soon.)
COMMUNITY INTEREST
Community Gardens/Greenhouse Update
There are many updates to the area surrounding the greenhouse since the fall! Thanks to Matt Kern for clearing a path to access the top of the retention pond and for spreading top soil and sowing grass seed in the common area. This winter the Hoers and Galvins have fought back the multiflora rose to expand the “Fairy Trail” in a complete loop, including a small connector to the retention pond. The fall plantings are starting to come in to fill the hillside beds, and patches of wildflower seeds are sprouting. The herb beds are thriving from last year’s installment. Look for news throughout the growing season as community plantings of vegetables will be available from the raised garden beds for all to share! Don’t forget about the community library for all to enjoy!
