February BOD Meeting & Gate Discussion

February 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Dear Sovereign Oaks Community,
The Board of Directors meeting that had been scheduled in the fall to include a community discussion around the entrance gate and remotes, but was cancelled due to Helene, has now been rescheduled for the regular February meeting.

The date will be:
Tuesday, February 11th, 2025
East Asheville Library Room B
7:00 – 8:30 pm

*Regular board business and executive session will follow the open meeting.

Please review the general guidelines below and share them with any visitors or contractors.
General Gate Functioning

Hours of Operation:

  • Gates are timer-operated and open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • At all other times, gates are normally closed.
  • Gates may be opened for special events (e.g., severe weather, open houses).

Entrance Gate:

  • To open, enter code 1353.
  • The gate swings outward toward your vehicle and takes about 10 seconds to fully open. Wait until it’s fully open before proceeding.
  • The gate stays open for about 20 seconds. A sensor monitors the gate’s original closed position (as a straight line starting from the gate hinge post, and directed toward the exit gate). If a vehicle interrupts the sensor beam, the gate remains open until the path is clear, then restarts the 20-second timer.
  • Closing takes about 10 seconds.

Exit Gate:

  • The exit gate opens when your vehicle passes over the sensor located near the right shoulder of the exit lane (marked with an orange circle). Align your vehicle accordingly to trigger the sensor.
  • The gate opens away from your vehicle, taking about 10 seconds. Wait for it to fully open before proceeding.
  • The gate remains open for about 20 seconds with the same sensor-based delay as the entrance gate (as a straight line starting from the gate hinge post, and directed toward the entrance gate). Once the path is clear, the 20-second timer restarts before closing.
  • Closing takes about 10 seconds.

General Guidelines:

  • Wait your turn and let the gate reset before proceeding.
  • Do not follow closely (“coattail”) behind another vehicle through either gate.
  • Drive through at a normal pace—do not stop or linger in the gate’s swing path.
  • Always use the correct gate for your direction of travel. Do not enter through an exit gate or exit through an entrance gate.
  • Homeowners are responsible for informing guests, delivery services, and contractors of these procedures. Lot owners must ensure their builders and all subcontractors are also informed of these guidelines.
